The aquatic and semi-aquatic Heteroptera under the Infraorder Nepomorpha and Gerromorpha are distributed in almost all kinds of ecological niches with diverse climatic conditions, including both marine and freshwater habitats. They are the important components of freshwater ecosystem as they play a major role in the food web of this particular ecosystem. Globally, among the 17 major families of aquatic Heteroptera, 16 families comprising of 79 genera and 292 species are represented in India.- Preliminary Studies on the Aquatic Insect Diversity of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden (AJCBIBG), West Bengal

Study of aquatic insects has been proceeding for centuries, possibly millennia. Freshwater habitats from puddles to rivers to lakes, including both lentic (still water) and lotic (running water) habitats, can be home to various species of aquatic insects (Cheng, 1985; Daly, et al., 1998; Glausiusz, 1997). This specially adapted group of insects makes up only 3-5 percent of all insect species, but is very taxonomically diverse (Daly et al., 1998).- Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Predatory Aquatic and Semi-Aquatic Bugs of India

In the present study, a total of eight species of aquatic and semi-aquatic Hemiptera collected from India were identified based on morphology and mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase gene I (COI). Details of morphology based identification and the utility of COI gene to identify the aquatic Hemiptera is discussed in this paper. Keywords
